PABLO PICASSO – Femme au collier (Woman with a necklace), 1959
Sheet size: 318 x 385 mm
Image size: 270 x 225 mm
Edition: Size of edition unknown; scarce – Unsigned
Original linocut after and approved by Picasso for Picasso Linogravures, 1962. Three colours: black, brown, beige. Dated 24/11/59 in the plate. These linocuts were first issued in signed editions of 50 by Galerie Louise Leiris, printed by Arnéra. Because of the “reduction” method invented and used by Picasso, which uses just one plate of linoleum instead of a separate one for each colour, it was impossible to make any more prints from the original plates. Therefore in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louise Leiris, new linoleum plates were made at 42% of the original size, and it was from these that the above prints were made. Very slight discoloration to bottom edge of the sheet, otherwise fine condition. Ref: Bloch 928. Reproduced as plate 5 in Picasso Linoleum Cuts: The Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kramer Collection (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1985). Condition: Excellent.
